Olivenbäume auf Mallorca

Mallorca wurde 2.000 Jahre lang von den unterschiedlichsten Eroberern eingenommen und ausgebeutet. Was aber die Mallorkesen besonders verstanden war, sich in der neuen Herrschaft einzugliedern und Handel zu treiben. Und der wichtigste Exportartikel war Olivenöl. Deshalb wurden die Plantagen von den Römern, Mauren, Spaniern in Ruhe gelassen und die Bäume durften gedeihen. Das Ergebnis ist, dass die alten Olivenhaine heute noch bis zu 1.000 Jahre Bäume stehen haben.

Mallorca has been conquered and exploited by many different conquerors for 2,000 years. What the Mallorcan people understood in particular was to integrate themselves into the new dominion and to trade. And the most important export article was olive oil. Therefore the plantations were left alone by the Romans, Moors and Spaniards and the trees were allowed to flourish. The result is that the old olive groves still have up to 1,000 years of trees.
